Meghan Armstrong
Meghan started running due to the urgings of a teacher, who thought that she may have talent as a runner.
During high school, Meghan was a 3-time runner-up at the Oregon State Cross Country Championships. On the track, she was a 6-time state champion, winning both the 1,500m and 3,000m her sophomore, junior and senior years. She is the only female athlete in Oregon’s history to win both events three years in a row (Div. 4A). Meghan also competed in the Oregon/Washington Border Clash 4 years in a row, finishing 5th her senior year.
Meghan ran collegiately at the University of Iowa, where she was a 2-time Big Ten Champion in the 3,000m (Indoor) and 10,000m, and a 4-time NCAA Div. 1 All-American. Her All-American certificates range in events from the mile to the 10,000m including Cross Country. She placed 6th in the 10,000m NCAA Div. 1 National Championships in 2008 held in Des Moines, Iowa.
She ran a 2008 USATF Olympic Trials B standard, and narrowly missed competing in the US Olympic Trials. Instead, she represented the US in the 2008 North America, Central America, and Caribbean (NACAC) U-23 Championships where she won the 10,000m race.
Meghan graduated from the University of Iowa in the spring of 2008.
As a Team Strands.com athlete in 2009, Meghan posted personal bests in every distance from the mile to the half-marathon. She earned a 5th place finish at the Inaugural USA Road Mile Championships in the Twin Cities last May, running a road mile personal best of 4:43. Meghan also competed at the USA Half Marathon Championships (16th in 1:14:57), the USA Cross Country Championships (12th), and the USA 15 km Championships (15th in 52:30). On the track she set personal bests of 15:41.09 in the 5000 meters and 33:26.75 in the 10,000.
Meghan has kicked off the 2010 season with a 1-minute PR in the USA Half Marathon Championships (11th in 1:13:56) and a win at the ING Miami Half Marathon on January 31.
